Why is McDonalds coffee still so awful?

McD's have re-launched their coffee "Full bean" is the strap line, they are spending a fortune on advertising, yet I had some yesterday and it is still dire, bitter with an appalling aftertaste. Why can they not emulate Starbucks, Cafe Nero, etc? It cannot be lack of money or will?
