What breed of dog would be the best to have with small children?

My husband has recently been considering getting us a dog. My three-year-old son has wanted one for a while now, and he'd dead-set on having a golden retriever. One problem - I also have a one and a half year old son, and I'm three months pregnant. I'm just wonder what kind of breed would be best for small children, since my only qualm about getting a dog is that it might hurt the babies. Thanks!
